Supposedly more in touch with myself, learning to watch the mind and its activities and letting it be. It goes over and over and over so unvaried yet so far so good! I think of Stevie Wonder "knowing its so "dull" but feeling so right...pa ra pa pa!

Shobogenzo-zuimonki 1-2, presented by Kathy - Dogen: "Although keeping [precepts] is good, we should not take them as the primary practice ... When we sit zazen, what precept is not observed, what merit is not actualized?"

Meditating in a group is always encouraging, firstly to attend the meeting and then to be with like minded people. Discussion between the 2 sits is stimulating and thought provoking, and it's wonderful to benefit from the experience of a relaxed and humourous teacher.

"Pleasure and pain are born out of the same kind of background ... So if one is able to see the absurdity and irony of trying to achieve pleasure by rejecting pain, fearing extreme pain and so striving toward please, it is all very funny." Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Best one yet. I really enjoyed the discussion between the meditations. It's a great thing to have because after half an hour, my mind becomes a little restless, so the talk calms it down.... but after half an hour of talking, I feel like meditating again... so it's perfect!

It was a fabulously quiet but upbeat meditative gathering. It was nice seeing familiar as well as new faces, like seeing the youngs and 'young at heart' faces too. With people fumbling at the entrance afterward, to pick up their shoes, I'm so glad nobody accidentally took my shoes - afterall, how would I ever able to come home and justify to my pet pooch Elizabeth. To next time, to giving(like Kathy's smile!) instead of receiving, to love and happiness(like the love of my pooch Elizabeth), to more kindness and less adversity, enjoy.

It would be great if points presented during the course (butcher paper lists) could be made available as a reminder to keep focus going forward.

Seikan, thanks so much for a thought provoking discussion on Thursday. It's great to get "theory" along with the practice.

'Tame the mind' or 'let the cow graze'? Zen wisdom from the late Tibetan teacher Chogyam Trungpa: "Meditation is like giving a huge luscious meadow to a restless cow. The cow might be restless for a while in its huge meadow, but at some stage, because there is so much space, the restlessness becomes irrelevant. So the cow eats and eats and eats and relaxes and settles."
